I’ve mentioned it before, there’s a trend in the air…Yesterday I attended another women-only professional business woman’s retreat. This time, it was at Gramercy Mansion hosted by Jennifer Campion and Bonnie Krosner of Smith Barney.
The speakers were interesting, the sessions small, the lunch & wine tasting – pretty delicious. For me, the personal highlight was the wine tasting hosted by Vicky Schassler of Spirits of Mt Vernon, Laura Taffe (San Fransico Wine Group) and Carole Fling (Country Vintner). Patti Neumann – of Citypeek.com (great resource for anything fun in a wealth of cities) was also helping out in the wine department – in fact, she’s the one who connected the dots and got the wine component coordinated.
It was a cozy group – some of the ladies in attendance included: Mimi Roeder Vaughan (Roeder Travel), Louise Senft (Baltimore Mediation), Lynn Brick (Brick Bodies), Sali J. Ward (Wonderful Wardrobes), Janine Di Paula Stevens (Vircity), L. Content McLaughlin Esq. (Tydings & Rosenberg LLP) , Ferrier Stillman Esq. (Tydings & Rosenberg), Mary Ann Masur (Synergy Consultants) and of course many others and yours truly.
Sometimes it pays to pick the right personal financial advisor
– This was a lovely gesture of appreciation for Mrs. Campion’s and Mrs. Krosner’s clients. The lunch time presentation featured etiquette expert – Patricia Mitchell.

It was a beautiful day really, you couldn’t ask for more perfect weather when 60+ golfers gathered for a 4pm shotgun start to a scramble back nine tournament for Girl Get your Golf Game on 2008 put on by the Women’s Wine & Dine (click here to learn more). The event, which was in it’s third year drew enthusiastic golfers and beginners alike.
The winning foursome shot a 31 collectively and a great time was had by all. Golfers included Veronica Cool (Wachovia Bank), Jennifer Campion (Smith Barney), Betty Hines (Business Builder & Skyline Tours), Tracy Steedman (Gallagher), Content McLaughlin (Tydings & Rosenberg), Paige Koerner (Merry Maids), Janine Di Paula Stevens (Vircity) and Maria Welch (Respira Medical)
.
Dinner included traditional golf fair of crab balls, BBQ’d meat balls, chicken tenders, crudites, Ceasar Salad, Cabot Cheese & crackers and of course, a delectable chocolate cake.
The tourney took place at the incredibly conveniently located Timbers at Troy in Elkridge, MD. Visit their site to learn more by clicking here.

Bridesmaid Bingo – Honors Julie Mercer and raises funds and awareness for My Sister’s Place. May 28, 2008
The merriment started for me Wednesday when I went to Bridesmaid Bingo at the Scottish Rite temple in Baltimore. What made this annual event extra special was that my friend and philanthropy mentor Julie Mercer (click here to learn more about Julie) was honored. Many of Julie’s friends and fans were in attendance and everyone enjoyed the bingo game, refreshments (the best of the food was certainly by a long shot the Charm City cupcakes). The room had many of Baltimore’s power women in attendance – Sheila Murthy (Murthy Law group – http://www.murthy.com/), Melanie Sabelhaus (who just joined the National board of S.C.O.R.E., Lynn Brick (Owner Brick Bodies), Jenny Trostel (Owner Saab of Baltimore), Mary Louise Montague (Harborside Relocation), Shirley Bigley , Janine Di Paula Stevens (Vircity), Content Mc Lauhglin, Esq.(Tydings & Rosenberg LLP) and Sali Ward of Wonderful Wardrobes, to name a few.
Thursday was the night for Real Estate related soirees. I was fortunate to attend BOTH the Downtown Partnership’s Luxury Living tour AND the Ritz Carlton Residences Opening party.
The first – gathered about 65 of baltimore’s hip and happening “trendsetters” for a tour that began at the fabulous Crescent at Fells Point
where a lovely buffet of delights prepared by Classic Catering and beverages were there to revive us.

After that – we were whisked away to some secret locations in the city, and the fun continued on the buses and out.
We eclipsed ourselves and headed over to the Ritz Carlton party where we saw lot’s of the city’s movers and shakers. The highlight of THAT event was the oyster bar, the ice martini bar and some of the most amazing fireworks I’ve ever seen outside of a Fourth of July festivity.
We got to tour the units which were lovely although seems – as with the Crescent apartments that all decorators are in love with the color brown… none the less, gorgeous.

Federal Hill Smiles announces discounted teeth whitening services in conjunction with event, all proceeds to benefit children’s organizations
NASHVILLE, Tenn.– The crowd was all smiles when country music icon Garth Brooks took the stage at a private concert to kick off the 2008 Smiles for Life children’s charity event. Dr. Denise Markoff and the Baltimore-based Federal Hill Smiles team were one of few practices treated to a private photo shoot and meet and greet session with the notorious country singer for their hard work in the Smiles for Life campaign. As part of the event, Federal Hill Smiles is offering discounted professional teeth whitening services from March 1 to June 30, donating 100 percent of proceeds to kids organizations. Of the funds raised, 50 percent will go to the Smiles for Hope foundation and the remainder to other national children’s charities through the Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids foundation. Typically teeth whitening can cost around $500. The discount will reduce prices by almost half to $285.00. Federal Hill Smiles has raised over $85,000 for children’s charities since 2000. This November, in addition to donating funds, the Federal Hill Smiles Team will take their first humanitarian trip abroad to the Dominican Republic and donate their dental services to less fortunate children. Smiles for Life is an annual campaign organized by the Crown Council, an elite association of dentists throughout North America of which Dr. Markoff is a member. The campaign has raised more than $25 million nationwide since it was organized in 1998, benefiting over 500 children’s charities.
